SkillFiesta, is an event organized by Miracle Ewim, founder of Love Showers with the aim of teaching 100 youths digital skills for free. Chenemi Zekeri an attendee described the event
60% of children under-12 will grow up to work in jobs that don’t exist yet, and it is predicted that the future problem of jobs will not be a lack of jobs, but a lack of skill to fill the jobs. With every new advent in technology, the skill gap is growing decidedly wider, contributing to the already sky-high rate of unemployment.
This spurred Miracle Ewim, founder of Love Showers, to convene SkillFiesta, an event organized with the aim of teaching 100 youths digital skills for free. You heard me, FREE.
The event held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 7, Rasaq Balogun Street, Surulere. The skills taught were: content marketing, graphics design, brand storytelling, social media management, and Instagram and Facebook Ads.

The event kicked off with a general session featuring 4 speakers: Nkemdilim Uwaje Begho, who made the opening address, Chinwe Egwim who was the keynote speaker, Tamunoibifiri Hart and Chikaodi Elizabeth.
Nkemdilim Begho, the CEO of FutureSoft, titled her address “Digital Skills that can take from unemployable to highly employable” (the first line of this post is actually a very memorable quote from her speech). She talked about 21st century skills and digital skills, and the role of these skills in equipping yourself for employment in the 21st century. She also spoke about the importance of cultivating creativity, creating value, and taking initiative.
Up next was the keynote speaker, Chinwe Egwim, an economist at FBN quest. She spoke about the relevance of these skills in the corporate environment, and how to employ them. She also spoke about taking initiative and creating opportunities for yourself by finding a differential factor. Speaking of opportunities, she threw one open to the house which we (sadly) all missed, but she was generous enough to throw us another before leaving.
At this point we were all charged with motivation for personal development, and the next speaker who came up did not douse the fire. Tamunoibifiri Hart, a Human Resources Personnel, shook a lot of tables with her speech. She spoke about the roles skills play in acquiring jobs, and opened our eyes to see that many times, unemployment is not only about a lack of jobs, but about the inadequacies of the job-seekers. She spoke about the various failings she had witnessed in job-seekers in her years as a recruiter, and gave advice on how to better position oneself for employment.
The final speaker was Chikaodi Elizabeth, a travel consultant and entrepreneur, who spoke about the force of determination and it’s role in fueling achievement, and it was a fitting end to the general session.
By this time I had expected to be feeling sleepy, as I had barely 3 hours of sleep the night before, but when your entire mindset is being renovated, your village people will have to take a backseat. My eyes were shining steadfastly as the general session drew to a close, and we split into our various classes.
The classes were headed by the following faculty members:
John Maduforo -Content Marketing
Miracle Ewim- Brand Storytelling
Iwejuo Stanley- Graphic Design
Durojaiye Samuel- Facebook and Instagram Ads
Chima Nwachukwu- Social Media Management
I personally participated in the Brand Storytelling class, and it was one of the most enlightening training sessions I’ve ever attended, free and paid alike. Our teacher, Miracle Ewim, was free-spirited and patient as she explained to us from the bottom up, going from the very basics of storytelling and the writer’s journey to brand storytelling, its aims, characteristics and the techniques involved. Using simple and relatable examples, she was able to transfer knowledge in a way that was clear, concise and easy to assimilate. I think I speak for every other member of the class when I say that we entered the training room feeling like novices, and we left feeling like pros!
I attended only one class, but from the testimonies over a hundred people in attendance who attended different classes, I believe this feeling was spread across board. This was the first free training I would attend that would be filled with so much value, and I'm deeply indebted to Miracle Ewim and Love Showers as a whole, for the life-changing opportunity.
I hope that from this and other such initiatives, we will be able to build a generation of youth who are intentional about personal development, and are committed to developing the skills they needed to position themselves as excellent in their fields. Youths who will then transform personal development into community development, and be the change we seek.
